Cast It NOW: Star Wars

By now I am sure you have heard the huge news that Disney has purchased Lucasfilms and have big plans to reboot the legendary Star Wars franchise. Now we have every reason to believe these will be additions to the Star Wars franchise, not a remake, but wouldn’t it be fun to imagine IF the films were remade which up and coming actors would step into those huge shoes? Let’s take a look at some suggestions!

Luke Skywalker

Ah yes the lovely Luke Skywalker, made famous by the not-so-famous-anymore Mark Hamill. Luke is a kind and naïve boy but turns out to be a true hero who actually gets the girl at first…except she turns out to be his sister. Anywho, for me Luke Skywalker is the ultimate boy-next-door role. Think Shia LaBeouf in Transformers, an everyday man that becomes an unlikely hero! So automatically that makes me think of LaBeouf, but honestly he has already stated he will only be doing indies from now on so lets look at some REAL possibilities here. I heard Anton Yelchin’s name mentioned and I think he’s a great choice, he pulled off that part very well in the underrated ‘Fright Night.’ Another solid actor in my opinion would be Josh Hutcherson from ‘The Hunger Games.’ He has the hero-like aspect but still manages a great vulnerability.

Princess Leia

This is a tough one to call. So much of her role is based off of Luke’s casting, but it’s still fun to play around with some possibilities. Even though I already recommended Josh Hutcherson for Luke, his ‘Hunger Games’ co-star Jennifer Lawrence would be an absolute perfect choice for the role – sexy but still a heroine in her own right. Nina Dobrev of TV’s ‘The Vampire Diaries’ has proved she can take on a bloody damsel in distress and make her absolutely sizzling hott. And then there is the ever reliable Emma Watson who certainly has a large fan base but I don’t think she would live up to the sexiness required in the role.

Han Solo

As soon as I thought about this character in modern times only 2 actors really came to mind for me, Chris Hemsworth and Channing Tatum. Both are handsome strapping men who can clearly save the day physically. Tatum has also shown off his comedic chops in ’21 Jump Street,’ a necessity to the role of Solo, I haven’t seen Mr. Thor himself as a comedian just yet but I’m certain he has the potential. Upon thinking further I also came to the conclusion that Ryan Gosling would be an inspired choice for the role. He proved he has comedic abilities with ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love,’ he sure knows how to the charm the ladies, and he’s a modern action hero in his own right.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Similar to Han Solo, immediately when thinking of this role I had an actor in mind, Clint Eastwood. Say what you will about his recent Republican National Convention debacle (seriously, check it out on Youtube it’s a riot), but the man can really tear at the dramatic heart strings. I’d also take Malcolm McDowell who I think would do wonders with the role as well!

And there you have it Banters. Now listen, I am by no means recommending a remake of the Star Wars franchise. Please Hollywood/Disney, leave those originals alone! BUT it is still fun to play around with modern Hollywood stars and see who would rock it in these legendary roles. Who would you like to see in the roles of Luke, Leia, Han, and Obi-Wan? Let us know Banters, and may the force be with you.
