i like the idea of an old gunslinger brought back. this is common, i know...but if the old guy is a genuine asshole, it might be good. especially if he's an actor like clint eastwood....someone you don't expect to be good. but he CAN"T save the young kid.
they always have a force of evil...who doesn't something cruel. thus justifying some other person, who's a little less cruel, to fight back. that's no good.
the scenes are too simple...
the image i have in my head is of a man...
wait... maybe it's like a massacre. a young man or woman commits a horendous act. ....why, we don't yet know.
but it all falls back on the parents. the father is cruel. the mother is a pushover.
the victims go after the parents. they kill/rape the mother, and the father, who IS an asshole, becomes the unlikely hero.
evil sparks up everywhere. the posse coming for him, they're bad men, as well. out for vengence. they're ignorant. they don't think. they're a mis matched group brought together by a tragedy.
they go to the parents place and lose control on the mother. when the father returns from hunting, he sees what's left, doesn't know. and is pissed off.
he learns later that it's because of his son/daughter's actions....
and we have to get into WHY the son/daughter did the massacre... that's another part of the mystery.
b/c the father was an asshole. because the mother cheated on him, and the son knew. because the children killed in the massacre (among others), we connected to the asshole father, or asshole mother.
and the son's life was ruined because of that. maybe the father raped a woman, the wife of a rich man in town... and she had twin babies. yes. that's the connection.
and the son, finds out somehow. from the woman, maybe. who he ALSO kills in the massacre.
in the end, the father learns the truth of who was killed. and he realizes that all the innocent people who were killed, were killed because of his actions years before. he goes out and hunts down the posse guys. erases the past. and in the end he's left alone. in his house. which he sets on fire. and maybe, in the end, he's burned alive. maybe not.
